time to really potty-train?

over the past few months i have been slowly introducing the idea of potty-training to mclayne (see previous "whachou doin' withose pannies on yo head?" post). i had been using a little padded seat that just fits onto a regular toilet. to me, it seemed a little awkward/dangerous, so i bought a little stand alone toddler toilet to use also. now i think i'm ready to get serious about this, but have a lot of questions...if she's the right age, treats/no treats, diaper/no diaper...etc. since several of you have successfully trained your cute kids, i am calling on you for advice. you know...what age you started, how long it took, what things worked for you, things you will do different the next time around, things you have heard others try. any help would be greatly appreciated. i can't wait to get some pointers...actually i can't wait until she's potty-trained even more!

eventhough this looks like laynie is pushing out something huge, she has yet to attempt pooping in her toilet. she did tinkle about 10 times all in a 3 minute span. drip by drip we'll get there!

Oh, good luck. Who knows what works. I really tried all the tricks. Treats, mini toilets, cool underwear, and pull ups. The one thing that worked with Aiden, finally, was we let him wear underwear and when he peed in them we made him wear them for about 1/2 hour. He was so mad and screamed the whole time, but he was potty trained after that. Andrew could care less if he was wet. He just all of a sudden got it one day. So, I really wish you luck. I am glad my boy are done. Now on to Oakley!

Good luck my friend! She looks so grown up on her big potty. Let us know how that goes! Oh and your dads book was a hit. Thanks for putting that together.

Sammi was almost three by the time she was officially trained. She is stubborn and did it on her time. I remember one day I told her she could get a cookie if she went on the potty. She said, "I don't want a cookie!" really snooty....LIAR.
I do know I don't like pull-ups. I buy really cute panties with cinderella, dora, etc...whatever they like. Olivia goes on the potty at least twice a day. I don't know when I will offically put panties on her. I don't want her to grow up yet. Olivia likes the thought of doing things like Sammi. Maybe you could tell Laynie she is being like Sammi when she goes on the big girl potty and wears big girl panties. Colleen B told me she trained her kids by leaving them naked from the waste down and they would just go to the potty. Yeah, Sammi piddled on our new office carpet. GOOD LUCK!

Averi was 2 and 1/2 before she was interested. If she isn't interested I wouldn't even bother yet. One of her friends was potty trained and that was a great help because she wanted to wear big girl panties like Cassidy. I just set the timer on the microwave for 30 minutes and then got really excited when the timer went off. If she didn't go I would set the timer for 15 and then 5 until she went. Give her lots of drinks and make a big deal when she does go. Let her get a treat or call someone: dad, an aunt or a grandma. Good Luck. I'm still waiting for Rachel so show some interest.

Good luck. I think it was the hardest thing I have ever done. Although I hear some kids are really easy. Madison just turned three and is finally potty trained. I tried about five times between two and three. I now believe what everyone told me...they do it when they are ready.

hahahaha I love it... Buddy was potty trained within the first week we had him. So yeah, why dont you just put puppy pads down for her, and slowly move them towards the toilet. hahahahaha hey it works for a dog! Good luck!

Well with every kid its a different story. I forced Kylee and finally gave up when at nap time she pooped her pants and decided to play with it(like what you see monkeys at the zoo do). With Maya I finally found something that worked. We started out the day with a pop and a big glass of chocolate milk after that and so on and so on. My other children were so upset that I let her have pop for breakfast. But it worked. After she went potty I would reward her with another one of her favorite dirnks. We did this for one day and that was all it took. Now boys, are a whole different story. Good Luck
